I chose “How to design and deliver an effective presentation” as an interactive learning resources to discussed with. Firstly, I would like to star my peer review from the learner’s point of view. There is a brief overview at the beginning of the resource, which allows me to know what the authors are trying to tell me. So I can get the general idea of this resource at the very first time. The first part is introduced by a question, it is a effective way to bring the reader into the orator, and lead to thinking. But just try to think is it a bit one-sided to maintain the audience’s attention by just changing the format and topic of the PowerPoint? What you could do if the audience still can not be attracted with? My suggest is looking for some examples of light-hearted and humorous opening may be a good chioce, and you can provide links which helps with the opening of a presentation like Ted Talk on youtube.

I am in favor of assessing learners in table form, because it is so straightforward for learners to evaluate themselves. But it seems to me that learners’ self-assessment based on their own understanding are not very convincing. Perhaps you might consider add constructive feedback of group members just like the second and the third topic does, or an interactive activity like quiz or short question would be great too.

Both second and third essential question require comments from the group members as an assessment of learners which is sensible. For the second essential question in the reflection part, the main piont I want to confirm is whether the video you have given should be regarded as the only evaluation criteria, or whether learners can give suggestions based on their own thinking and come up with reasons for such evaluation. You can reflect on this and supplement it in subsequent assignments.

For the part3, I would be a little unsure of activity part. The problem is when should speakers be silence and how long should they remain silent during a presentation. If you can improve this part in more details, it would be more easier for learners to understand how to perform a presentation in an effectively and explicit way. From the reviewer’s point of view, I did not see the reference list, and the resource does not show the design for inclusion of diverse learners. Besides, with one important I want to confirm is that learners may spend too much time on wathcing these videos as an ELL (English Language Learner), we are not sure if they will missing some key points and become confused because of their poor English. It would be more inclusive for ELL if we could sort out the main points from a few of the videos.

You can also put several samples of excellent presentaion and Outlines at the end of the speech for learners to use as an reference.

Few points I want to emphasize & recommend to improve

  • A full reference list need to be add in.
  • An overview of your plans to design for inclusion of diverse learners is necessary.
  • Show the description and rationale for the learning theory more clearly. (behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism)
  • Need a description of your learning context. (K-12, higher ed, corporate, individual, etc.)
  • Better come up with a method to assess learners rather than just forms, so that the result of the reflect part could be more convincing for the learners.
  • You can choose to refine the information of the video link to help the particular type of learners you have chosen to make it more inclusive.
